André Leon Talley is getting real about his qualms with the film Devil Wears Prada, specifically what they got wrong about the famous Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. The ex-bestie to the fashion icon is spilling the tea in a new book!

The inside scoop on the fashion icon

André Leon Talley is sticking up for his old best friend and Vogue pal, Anna Wintour. It's no secret that the 2008 movie The Devil Wears Prada was loosely based on a past Vogue intern's tell-all book.

Meryl Streep plays the infamous role of "Miranda Priestly", the icy and terrifying editor-in-chief, and it has been said that the character was based off of Wintour.

Talley, however, discloses that the role wasn't entirely accurate. Working alongside Wintour from 1983 until 2013, Talley says that a few key elements in the movie were straight up false.

"At Vogue, girls did not run down the halls in stiletto heels into Ms. Wintour’s office. No. They got it so wrong," he shared.

Working as Wintour's left-hand-man, Talley is releasing a new book, The Chiffon Trenches, that will explore the memories of working at Vogue

"Meryl Streep did a great job in the movie," Talley says, but he was also disappointed in Stanley Tucci's portrayal of himself.

"But the man who played me? No! It did not reflect the real world of Vogue," he says.

Talley admits that his new book does a lot of "unpeeling the onion" about Wintour, and discloses a lot about his time as her co-worker and friend.

"We didn’t have to speak," he says. "I knew what she was thinking, without words. She doesn’t say many words."

Unfortunately, the two fell out of touch, and their relationship took a hit. He was let go as the announcer of the red carpet attendees for the infamous Met Gala, and was lost as ghost of Wintour's past.

"I had suddenly become too old, overweight and uncool for Anna Wintour," he says. "I don’t think she understands what she does to people."

"I love her," Talley says. "People see my book as a vengeful, bitchy tell-all. It is not. My book is in many ways as a love letter to Anna Wintour."

Talley's book, The Chiffon Trenches, comes out May 19.
