Before Anthony Anderson joined Black-ish, he built up an impressive resume! Born August 15, 1970, in Augusta, Maine, and raised in Compton, California, while he had aspirations of becoming a stand-up comedian, Anthony would get his start in television in his late twenties.
His first role would come on popular '90's teen sitcom Hang Time, where he played the part of "Teddy Brodis" for a total of 39 episodes over the course of three seasons! Anthony would continue to rise to fame starring in a number of films including:

Leading up to his most well-known role on popular ABC sitcom Black-ish, Anthony Anderson had tried his hand at his own sitcom All About the Andersons. Unfortunately, the series was short-lived and cancelled after only a season.
In 2014, Anthony would land the role that has changed his life forever, as lead "Dre Johnson" on Black-ish. Following the story of an affluent black family, as head of the family "Dre" worries that his family has become too culturally assimilated and wants to create a sense of ethnic identity for his family.
While Anthony has been nominated for six Emmy Awards in a row for his performance on the show, he has not won one yet. However, the actor who has just turned 50, is receiving the best birthday present he could have wished for- a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

In his personal life, Anthony Anderson also has a gorgeous family just like his on-screen character! Married to his high-school sweetheart Alvina Stewart, their relationship has had some bumps along the way but has resulted in two beautiful children, daughter Kyra and son Nathan.
Alvina has been Anthony's rock throughout the years, sticking by his side when he underwent huge lifestyle changes after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2002. When he's not busy spending time with his family or starring on Black-ish, you will also find Anthony hosting and judging game shows like To Tell the Truth and Food Network's Iron Chef America.
