In 1993, Chad Allen would land the biggest role of his career as sheriff "Matthew Cooper" on CBS Western drama Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. The series takes place in the late 1800s in the small wild west town of Colorado Springs.
Following the story of a doctor (played by Jane Seymour) who moves out west to set up her own medicine practice, "Matthew Cooper" would become the town hero, solving countless problems throughout the show's six seasons.

After Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman ended in 1998, Chad Allen would go on to star in a number of successful films and series including Third Man Out (2005), Ice Blues (2008), and five episodes of hit soap opera General Hospital. Allen, openly gay since he was 21, even wrote, produced, and starred in his own film in 2007 titled Save Me, exploring the ex-gay movement.
Even though he had thirty strong years of acting under his belt, in 2015 Chad Allen decided to retire from acting and pursue a career in clinical psychology. The now 46-year-old stated in a farewell video that while he is very grateful for his acting years, it was time to move onto the next stage of his life. Perhaps all of those years starring on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman inspired his future profession!
