Dylan O'Brien, The Maze Runner Star's Rise To Fame
Dylan O'Brien, The Maze Runner star, was born August 26th, 1991, in New York City to a seasoned cameraman and actress. He got his first big break from posting short comedy YouTube videos when a local producer found the videos and recruited him for a web series. He then went on to pursue acting and auditioned for a role in MTV's Teen Wolf! He landed a main cast role of "Stiles Stilinski," the sarcastic and quick-witted best friend of "Scott" who realized his best friend was transforming and helped him adapt to his new supernatural life.
Adaptable and talented Dylan starred in a successful improvised film High Road, The First Time, New Girl, and The Internship before he was perfectly cast for The Maze Runner. The Maze Runner was a young adult sci-fi novel series that reached such great success it broke into Hollywood.
Dylan was cast as the main character "Thomas" who woke up in a peculiar cage with other young kids forced to train to survive a twisted labyrinth. The film series was an instant success and Dylan's fame skyrocketed! Tragically, while filming a difficult stunt for the 3rd installation Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Dylan was injured badly while leaping in between two moving vehicles which forced production to halt while Dylan recovered for months. He suffered facial fractures, a concussion, and brain trauma!
Dylan O'Brien's Traumatizing Accident On Set Of Maze Runner
To this day Dylan is still tight-lipped about his traumatizing accident but is slowly but surely letting the world know just how much the incident affected him. O'Brien told Vulture "I had lost a lot of function, just in my daily routine. I wasn't even at a point where I felt like I could handle social situations, let alone showing up and being responsible for work every day. Long hours on set, delivering a performance and carrying a movie... it just makes your palms sweat." The accident took a horrific toll on the actor who said "I really was in a dark place there for a while and it wasn't an easy journey back. There was a time there where I didn't know if I would ever do it again... and that thought scared me, too."
Luckily, he bounced back with the help of his father and a caring stunt trainer he came back to film and even felt a deeper connection to his character in the film American Assassin who also suffered a trauma he struggled to overcome.
Dylan went on to star alongside acting greats Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, and John Malkovich in Deepwater Horizon and voiced the titular character 2018's Bumblebee, the Transformers spin-off. Now he has a few roles in the works to come out this year and next like Love and Monsters with Michael Rooker, and Steven Spielberg's series Amazing Stories.
