Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Up About Failed Marriage To Chris Martin

47-year-old Gwyneth Paltrow is getting candid about the downfall of her marriage to Chris Martin in a piece she wrote for British Vogue. She and the lead of Coldplay married in 2003 and had 2 gorgeous children, Apple and Moses. Actor Simon Pegg is actually Apple's Godfather. Now Gwyneth is opening up about their decision to divorce.

In her article, she speaks about when she realized that her marriage was over and how the feeling became overwhelming. The two "had always been friends" and "We were close, though we had never fully settled into being a couple. We just didn't quite fit together. There was always a bit of unease and unrest. But man, did we love our children." The two did their best to save their marriage as to avoid hurting or affecting their children but in the end, it just would not work.

"Between the day that I knew and the day we finally relented to the truth, we tried everything. We did not want to fail. We didn't want to let anyone down. We desperately didn't want to hurt our children. We didn't want to lose our family." Finally, the Ironman star came to her major realization "I found that I was not at a fork in the road. I was well down a path. Almost without realizing it, we had diverged. We'd never find ourselves together in that way again."

After being taught the term "conscious uncoupling" by their therapist the two put it to the test for one year before announcing their separation to the world. She said "It was hit and miss. We had great days and terrible days. Days we couldn't stand each other, but forced ourselves to remember what we were aiming for. Somehow finding a way to smile and hug, and to take the kids out for brunch like we had planned." She was also terrified at the prospect of the media finding out about their split "before we were ready to say it."

Finally, they did, in a newsletter on her website Goop titled "conscious uncoupling." Gwyneth remembers "trembling on the phone to Elise Loehnen, out content chief, giving the green light to send." She even has advice for others going through the same process as she did and how to go about consciously uncoupling like "Learning to let go of spite is crucial. Spite makes us believe we are "right". It keeps us blind to our own faults. The point of a break-up, if you have to go through it, is to grow."

Gwyneth is currently married to producer and screenwriter Brad Falchuk while Chris Martin is in a loving relationship with 50 Shades of Grey star, Dakota Johnson. Gwyneth ended her article beautifully by mentioning both and said "Even when they are young, children understand that love takes multiple forms. I know my ex-husband was meant to be the father of my children, and I know my current husband is meant to be the person I grow very old with. Conscious uncoupling lets us recognize those two different loves can coexist and nourish each other."
