Over the weekend, Halsey attended a couple of protests in California to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Here's what she shared about her experiences online!

Halsey has opened up about her experiences at the Black Lives Matter rallies she attended with her former boyfriend Yungblud! As People reports, Halsey first attended the Black Lives Matter rally in West Hollywood on Saturday. In a series of tweets, the singer documented her experience at the rally, which she said escalated unexpectedly into violence when the police showed up.

"fired rubber bullets at us. we did not breach the line. hands were up. unmoving. and they gassed and fired," Halsey shared, accompanied by a series of photos featuring police officers holding what seem to be guns. She also clarified in a later tweet that despite the violent encounter, she was "not arrested."

Halsey mentioned her safety as "information was out of control"

Halsey explained that while she managed to make it out of the rally safely, she was also helping others do the same. "Im safe," she said "There were ppl I had to get to safety as many of them have VISAs. Myself + many of my peers were shot, gassed + antagonized. The frontline was calm + did not provoke."

As she mentioned though, not everyone was so lucky. "BUT MANY ARE NOT SAFE + MANY ARE IN CUSTODY," she shared. "DONATE TO BAIL ORGS!!! I AM CURRENTLY." After the tweet got cut short, she made another follow-up tweet. "I wanted you to know I was SAFE because information was out of control. But I will NOT be updating any more personal information!!!"

"I WILL ONLY BE DOCUMENTING AND POSTING MY RECORD OF THE STATUS OF THE ASSEMBLY," she continued. "Thousands of you witnessed them fire on us unprovoked. Be safe."

Halsey attends another protest in Santa Monica the following day

Halsey also took to the streets for a second day, once again joined by Yungblud. As People shared, the pair attended the Black Lives Matter protest in Santa Monica on Sunday. "Santa Monica I’m here I have medical supplies lots of it. They are masking," Halsey tweeted, before going on to talk about what she referred to as "the horrors" of the day.

"[National Guard] + officers firing rounds into kneeling crowds," she said. "We dont have enough medics on the ground on our side. I was treating injuries I am not qualified to. So much blood spilled. If you have med training pls go + standby outskirts."

Halsey's message to allies: "You are not there to speak over them"

Halsey also wasn't afraid to call out those who acted inappropriately. "And if you’re a white ally who is gonna stand and shout and antagonize the officers and NG and then hide behind black bodies when the shots start firing, f— you," Halsey said. "You couldnt understand a shred of the bravery of the black folks at the front line. Thank you to everyone who stayed."

"You are not there to speak over them," she said, referring to the white allies in question. "If they are venting their pain and anguish out loud do not speak over them. Allies are there to help when help is needed. Not take control of the narrative. there’s enough of that already."

Halsey gives fan advice on important supplies to bring to a protest

Halsey also said that while people have been told that rubber bullets aren't lethal, they shouldn't "underplay" their strength. "I had to bandage a man who looked like his entire face had exploded today," she tweeted. "So before you say, from the comfort of your home, that we’re exaggerating, please consider the injuries some have suffered."

She also replied to a fan who asked her what medical supplies would be most needed at a protest. "Alcohol, disinfectant, gauze for excessive bleeding, non stick gauze pads and medical tape, eye pads, butterfly bandages, cold packs, neosporin, bandage scissors, tweezers and ace bandages," Halsey shared.

Halsey acted "fearlessly and selflessly" at protest, says Yungblud

Halsey's ex-boyfriend Yungblud also tweeted at her after the protest, mentioning how altruistic the singer's actions were. "i need to say @halsey u were incredible today. u acted fearlessly and selflessly. u were so brave and inspirational," he said. "when innocent people were unlawfully wounded, u were there with a medical kit bandaging them up. u didn’t think about yourself for one moment. i am proud to know u."

Halsey thanked Yungblud as well, mentioning how he "literally ran exposed in front of rounds being shot to drag wounded people to safety without even thinking twice." As People reports, several other celebrities also took part in the Black Lives Matter protests in Los Angeles.

Paris Jackson, Ariana Grande, Miguel, Machine Gun Kelly, Tinashe, Kehlani, Emily Ratajkowski, Tessa Thompson, Cole Sprouse, Madison Beer, and Timothée Chalamet were all seen on the streets over the weekend in solidarity as well.
