On February 24, Harvey Weinstein was convicted on two charges including a criminal sex act and rape. He's now been sentenced to 23 years in prison after a lengthy trial. Get the details below.

Harvey Weinstein was on Wednesday sentenced to 23 years in prison for the criminal sexual assault and rape of two women. He'd been convicted of the charges on February 24.

The #MeToo movement takes down Harvey Weinstein

Weinstein was at the centre of the #MeToo movement. Over multiple years, he was accused of the rape and sexual assault of dozens of women over several decades.

The former Hollywood film producer behind Miramax and The Weinstein Company abused his position of power to sexually assault women - many of whom were aspiring young actresses and models. He's now a convicted rapist. Weinstein reportedly plans to appeal the verdict.

The Silence Breakers and Harvey Weinstein's conviction

Beginning in 2017, dozens of women accused Weinstein of rape and sexual assault. This group of women is known as The Silence Breakers. They can finally see him brought to justice, though for the moment he's only been convicted on a mere two charges.

Jessica Mann and Miriam Haley were the two victims who were at the centre of the Weinstein trial conviction charges. They delivered their final victim impact statements at the sentencing on Wednesday.

Weinstein will serve 23 years in prison for the crimes.
