Katie Holmes about daughter Suri: "We kind of grew up together."

She went on on: "How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together." Holmes is 40 years old by now and in the interview she also spoke about her early acting years and how she actually turned down the first audition for Dawson's Creek, a job that would define her early twenties.

"I was playing Lola [in Damn Yankees]. I even got to wear the feather boa. I thought, there is no way I'm not playing Lola to go audition for some network. I couldn’t let my school down. So I told [director] Kevin [Williamson] and The WB, 'I'm sorry, I just can't meet with you this week. I've got other commitments.'"

She DID eventually get the part of "Joey Potter" and starred on the WB show for five years, from 1998 until 2003. To this day, Holmes and her co-stars James van der Beek, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson still keep in touch and even had dinner together recently. Holmes talked about how the show impacted their lives:

"We all went out to dinner and, I think, for all of us to really sit back in amazement that people still watch it and care about it," she said to Elle. "It was bigger than all of us and we all feel grateful that we got to contribute to it and benefit from it. We all got so many opportunities because of it."

Holmes directed her first feature All We Had in 2016 and, aside from acting in the upcoming horror movie Brahms: The Boy II, she is gearing up to direct her second film very soon!
