Katy Perry Talks Writing New Music For Herself During Dark Times, And Answers Taylor Swift Collab Rumours
Katy Perry is getting candid about her emotional state, and how it influenced her new music. Plus, the singer reveals the truth to the rumours of a potential Taylor Swift collaboration on her new album.
Katy Perry saves herself by writing music
Katy Perry is opening up about the dark times she has faced, and how her musical talent has been her saving grace, and updates everyone on her latest album.
Perry recently released a song "Daisies", and revealed that she wrote the song when she was in some of her darkest moments.
“I wrote this song just like it’s another anthem for myself. I came out of a pretty dark time on Witness and I’ve been writing a record for two years," she said on New Music Daily.
“I wrote some of it while I was clinically depressed and trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel. And when I’m writing songs like 'Firework' or 'Roar', it’s not because I’m feeling hunky-dory. It’s literally because I am having really dark thoughts and trying to come out of it," she shares.

I wrote this song a couple months ago as a call to remain true to the course you've set for yourself, regardless of what others may think. Recently, it has taken a new meaning for me, in light of what the whole world is experiencing. Each of us is one in more than seven billion, with our own story of strength and resilience to tell. DAISIES is out now. I hope it will be the soundtrack to going for your dreams now... especially the ones we left behind
She also shares that the songs on her new album have "definitely taken on a new meaning in quarantine times."
She said, “I think it’s been a time to reflect and a time that we realize maybe we took a lot of things for granted and didn’t have the gratitude about certain simple things."
The feud is over, will Swift join in on a collab?
Earlier in the day, Perry also appeared on Hits Radio Breakfast to talk about her album, and answered some burning questions about a Taylor Swift collaboration.
Rumours of the potential duet have been buzzing around since the two were seen reconciling their differences on Swift's "You Need To Calm Down" music video.
“No, it’s not correct,” Perry said of the rumour, “But the fans are definitely excited for something like that to happen in the future, and I’m always open.”
“I mean, the fans are so fun, they do search far and wide for Easter eggs. And we do put them in our visuals and in lyric videos and music videos and content that we created."
She added, "Not everything is an Easter egg. Some things are just flowers."
Perry is expecting a baby later this year, and talks more about pandemic pregnancy life. Watch the interview below!
