Kelly Rowland is opening up about what she felt like following Destiny's Child and life in the spotlight. The pop star is sharing what it was like working alongside Beyoncé Knowles and reveals it felt like a decade of life in a shadow.

Kelly Rowland is a familiar face to the average Millennial, as every girl in the early 2000s danced along to Destiny's Child, the girl group of the century! The coordinating outfits, sassy "Miss Independent" attitudes and flirty dance moves inspired a generation of female empowerment, but Rowland admits that behind the scenes it was a different narrative.

Kelly Rowland talks life in constant comparison

Kelly Rowland is getting real about what it was like being in the ultra-famous girl group Destiny's Child, and how working with Beyoncé affected her career. While appearing on The Voice Australia, Rowland opens up about what it was like.

Rowland was mentoring contestant Chris Sebastian, when the singer revealed that he was nervous about performing and being overshadowed by his older brother.

Rowland was quick to empathize saying, "I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it’s like being in a group with Beyoncé?"

"I would just torture myself in my head. Like, I can’t wear this dress because they’re going to say it’s like B. Or, I can’t have a song like that because it sounds too much like B. They’re gonna compare anyways," Rowland admitted.

Rowland continued to express that these feelings lasted a decade, adding, "I would be lying if I said no, it’s never bothered me. That’s bull."

"There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade, where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder," she said.

But despite her constant comparisons to Beyoncé, Rowland ended up finding success in her own right. Her newest song, titled "Coffee," was also released this year.
