Miley Cyrus doesn't just have sympathy for those who have been affected by the wildfires in Australia... she can empathize with their experience! In a new interview for the Australian television program Sunrise, Cyrus talked about how losing her home in Malibu to the California fires in 2018 made gave her a personal connection to the situation.
Cyrus opens up about losing many works she created in fire
"I lost my home in Malibu a couple years ago," Cyrus shared. “We were really lucky that we were able to get our animals out safely — and there were a lot of them — and not everyone was as fortunate". Cyrus also revealed that she'd lost many of her personal possessions in the fire, including journals and "a lot of the music and demos" she'd recorded.
Cyrus then talked about her experience going to see an artist she loves, Mr. Brainwash, at an art gallery. After she'd told him that she'd lost her art, he replied by telling her that she would make more. "And I thought ‘You know what? That’s right, I will just make more’," Cyrus went on to say. "That’s the same thing with memories. Losing memories, losing things. You’ll make more".
Miley Cyrus talks about her personal connection to Australia
Cyrus also talked about how Australia itself also means a lot to her, saying that it's been a "big part" of her life for the last 10-12 years. That's because she was married to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, and is currently dating another Australian celebrity, musician Cody Simpson! Cyrus calls Australia her "home away from home", saying that she "fell in love" with the continent the first time she visited.
"More than almost anywhere in the world I think I’ve had more of a personal relationship with it cause of the amount of time I’ve been able to spend there," Cyrus revealed. The "Malibu" singer is set to headline a benefit concert in Australia on March 13th, with all of the proceeds going directly to Australian wildfire relief charities.
