Lauren Holly was born in Pennsylvania in 1963 and started her acting career when she was 20 years old. Her first appearance on screen was in two episodes of the serial police drama Hill Street Bluesand three years later she joined the cast of ABC's television soap opera All My Children where she played the role of "Julie Chandler" from 1986 to 1989.

Lauren Holly has appeared in more than 40 films and more than 40 television series including What Women Want and CSI: Miami, however, she is better known for portraying "Director Jenny Shepard" from 2005 to 2008 in the American action police series NCIS, where she shared credits with Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly among other celebrities. Her character replaced "Thomas Morrow" and she first appeared in the episode "Kill Ari (Part I)".

Lauren Holly got married in 1991 to her long time boyfriend Danny Quinn but separated two years later. Then she got married to Canadian-American actor Jim Carrey in 1996, but also got divorced one year later. Later on, in 2001 she got married to investment banker Francis Greco; they were together for 13 years and adopted three children, but also separated in 2014. Nowadays she lives in Ontario, Canada, with her three sons, George, Henry, and Alexander.

After NCIS Lauren Holly has been working on several film and television projects, one of her most recent works is in 2018 film Ultra Low, and she was cast in a recurring role in the third season of the 2019 American political thriller drama Designated Survivor.
