Ruby Rose has decided to hang up her cape for good! As Entertainment Tonight reports, Rose made the shocking announcement on Tuesday that she will not be continuing on with the CW superhero show Batwoman when it begins filming season 2. The decision was especially surprising considering that Rose starred in season 1 of the series as "Kate Kane", aka "Batwoman" herself!

"I have made the very difficult decision to not return to ‘Batwoman’ next season," Rose said in a statement, as reported by Deadline. "This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles."

"Batwoman" to be recast with another LGBTQ+ actress

Rose's stint on Batwoman was notable since not only was she the first openly gay leading actor in a live action superhero show, her character was also gay. However, fans worried about what her departure will mean for the show's LGBTQ+ representation need not be concerned!

"Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best," Warner Bros. Television and The CW said in a joint statement, as shared by Deadline.

"The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months."
