"Shawshank Redemption" star Tim Robbins today
Tim Robbins has had numerous and diverse roles over the course of his career and is still one of Hollywood's best actors. He is perhaps best known for playing "Andy Dufresne" in Shawshank Redemption, but has also branched out into directing.
Tim Robbins's (59) most notable role was in the blockbuster Top Gun. Even though the movie turned Tom Cruise into THE name in the mid-eighties, Robbins's big breakthrough didn't happen until two years later when he starred in the film Bull Durham.

Not only did Bull Durham pave a pathway for the budding actors' career, it also acted a catalyst for his love life. While filming the movie, Robbins met Susan Sarandon (71) for the first time. They were an item until 2009 and have two sons, but never got married.
Based on the Stephen King Novel, Shawshank Redemption was nominated for several Oscar Academy Awards and Robbins's success reached dizzying heights. The film was celebrated by critics the world over and quickly became a cult-classic amongst fans. Tim Robbins played the leading role, convicted bank robber "Andy Dufresne" alongside Morgan Freeman (81).
Acting isn't Robbins's sole talent. In 1995 he directed the drama Dead Man Walking which received four Oscar nominations, doubling Robbin's already won fame. His lover at the time, Susan Sarandon, even recieved an Oscar for "Best Actress" for her performance in the film. In 2003 Robbins won both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his role in Mystic River.
Robbins was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2008. He has been the lead in the HBO drama TV series Here and Now since February this year.
