Sia Is A Grandmother!
One month ago Sia opened up about her new family and now the family has just increased by 2! Sia had adopted 2 young boys who were aging out of the foster care system the year before when they were 18 years old.
Both are 19 now and one has just become a father of 2! On Zane Lowe's Apple Music Show, Sia gushed "My youngest son just had 2 babies." The "Chandelier" singer joked "I'm just immediately horrified. No, I'm cool. They call me Nana. I'm trying to get them to call me Lovey, like Kris Jenner. I'm like, 'Call me Lovey.'"
The amazing singer-songwriter went into a little more detail about her modern family explaining that her sons could have stayed in foster care until they were 21 but she wanted to pull them out of the system as soon as she could.
"I'm a little bit jaded now after investigating the foster system as much as I have done in the last year. It's failing us. Not in my experience, in my son's experience. They've been in 18 different locations in their 18 years," Sia sadly explained. Her time with the boys "started out as a pretty massive roller coaster. They told me one thing, I discovered another. But I just stayed really like a kind of Al-Anon Ninja. I just kept really strong boundaries."
The boys had gone through "conditioning and complex trauma" in the foster care system which affected their time together "I would say 'You could do this, or you could go back to where you came from,' which is not a nice life. It's not a good life, and I'd say, 'I'm doing this because I'm your mother. I love you. I have no other agenda other than the fact that I love you. I don't want to see you in prison.'"
They seem to be adapting very well with Sia who said "One recently came out, and he's just blossoming and is the light of my life. I love him so much." Her eyes have even opened more now seeing what her two Black sons experience daily saying "I'm very scared for my children. I love them very much. I've only experienced white privilege and I know that now. I am fully aware of how much I've experienced white privilege, and now I have these two Black sons who tell me how it really is."
The boys are very lucky to have her and she is very lucky to have them, congratulations Grandma (or Lovey)!
