Thandie Newton Says She Was Surprised At Support After She Called Out Tom Cruise For Past Behaviour
Thandie Newton is responding to all the support she received following her honest interview last month. The Westworld actress got candid and revealed the "nightmare" she dealt with working with Tom Cruise filming Mission: Impossible II.
In a world where we put celebrities on pedestals, it's easy to forget that they might not all be the perfect people they seem to be! Last month, Thandie Newton opened up to Vulture about her experiences as a female actress in Hollywood and recounted working with none other than Tom Cruise.
During her time spent filming Mission: Impossible II, Newton revealed that she often felt unsafe onset with Cruise, and despite holding it in for all these years, is surprised to see how much support she received when she spilled the beans!
Thandie is feeling the love
Last month, Thandie Newton opened up about her "nightmare" working with Tom Cruise on the set of Mission: Impossible II, and revealed that there were plenty of times Cruise made her feel "scared."
"I was so scared of Tom," she said at the time to the publication.
"He tries super hard to be a nice person," she said. "But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done."
Newton then recounted how Cruise became "so frustrated" with the young actress when the scene they were shooting wasn't panning out the way it was supposed to.
In his attempt to help her, Newton said his methods were "most unhelpful" and caused her to fall "into a place of terror and insecurity."
In her latest interview, Newton spoke on the matter once more and revealed that she was pleased to see the amount of support she received about speaking up.
"I thought that I would be in trouble because that’s kind of what I’m used to," she said to Variety's podcast, The Big Ticket.
Instead, she received plenty of praise from other celebs, including Leah Remini, who said she had "big balls" for speaking out.
"I just happened to be an older woman who has recognized that knowing the truth and speaking the truth has benefited me a hell of a lot more than being silenced or seeing people silenced around me," Newton said.
"I have nothing to lose because I could just then not get hired, which is kind of normal for people in my generation anyway," she added. "So I’ve got nothing to lose and I would rather go out using this moment… It’s not even about my confessions. It’s about that this is the reality of what people face."
Newton also said she "felt solid" in her choice to say something, adding that she knows "it made people frightened."
Ultimately, Newton did what so many other women have the courage to do, and she's feeling the love!
