Hollywood can be an incredible and somewhat depressing place. We see some of the greatest actors come to life on the big screen and more often than not, we see them crash and burn in a fiery blaze of drugs, sex and partying. Though an amazing actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman was no exception to the rule. Nevertheless, we would still like to take this moment to look at this amazing actor's career. Enjoy!
Philip Seymour Hoffman was born on July 23, 1967 in Fairport, New York. He came from a normal family background with his mom being an elementary school teacher and his father working at the Xerox Corporation. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Jill and Emily.
After countless years trying to make it in show business, he finally got his big break through in the movie Scent Of A Woman (1992). What followed afterwards were several different roles in movies like Boogie Nights (1997), Happiness (1998) and The Big Lebowski (1998).
According to many Twitter and Facebook polls, the movie Twister is the movie he gets most associated with. His role as the grubby and hyperactive storm chaser got stuck in the heads of Hoffman fans well into the 2000's. However, when it comes to favorites according to Hoffman, Mangolia, was one of his personal favorite pieces of work.
In his personal life, Hoffman had been in a relationship with costume designer Mimi O´Donnell for the last 14 years of his life. The couple had two daughters together.
One of his last pieces of work was in the Hunger Games saga, where he starred in Catching Fire as well as Mocking Jay Part 1 and 2.
Mocking Jay Part 1 was released only nine months after his passing. The directors of the film had filmed most of his scenes before his death. Some of his other roles he had in the meantime were God's Pocket and a pilot episode of the show Happyish.
Hoffman's drug and alcohol problem began way back in his college years and was also sadly the cause of his death. Because most of his friends stated that he had it under control, fans were shocked to hear of his sudden passing on February 2, 2014. His death came only a short few months after his relationship ended. The actor was only 46 years old.
