Tory Lanez has officially been charged with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. As People reports, it was announced on Thursday that Lanez— whose real name is Daystar Peterson— has received several charges against him, which could lead to a possible long-term prison sentence.
Lanez charged with three counts of felony for shooting
Lanez has received three felony counts against him related to the shooting incident. As People mentions, the felonies in question include "assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle." According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, Lanez also finds himself facing "gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury."
The rapper's arraignment date is currently set for October 13, as he faces a possible 22 years and eight months behind bars in state prison if he ends up being convicted for the incident. Back in July, Megan Thee Stallion opened up about getting hurt in the shooting, taking to Instagram to share what had happened to her. She talked about Lanez's involvement during an Instagram Live, and shared several sweet gifts from celebrities she had received while recovering.
Lanez said to have sent Megan Thee Stallion an apology text
Lanez was arrested on July 13 due to the charge of carrying a firearm, but ended up being released the same day after posting his own bail. Earlier this month, TMZ claimed that Lanez had sent Megan Thee Stallion an apology for the incident via text message! "I know u prolly never gone talk to me again, but I genuinely want u to know I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart," he allegedly wrote. "I was just too drunk."
As People mentions, the Canadian rapper has referenced the shooting in his new song "Money Over Fallouts," from his recently released album DAYSTAR. "Megan, people tryin' to frame me for a shootin," Lanez raps on the track. "Gotta see a couple questions: how the f– you get shot in yo foot it don't hit no bones or tendons? How the f— is your team tryna' pay me in millions?"
Later on in the song, he also criticizes Megan Thee Stallion for taking legal action against him and reporting that he shot her. "Girl, you had the nerve to write that statement on an affidavit/Knowing I ain't do it but I'm coming at my truest," he raps. While the outcome of Lanez's case remains to be seen, hopefully it will result in justice.
