Last week, American singer Taylor Swift announced her former music label, Big Machine Label Group, denied her request to play some of her old songs at the upcoming American Music Awards ceremony.
After expressing her wish of performing some songs from her old catalogue during the upcoming event, Scott Borchetta, founder of Big Machine, reportedly told her she "was not allowed to perform her old songs on television because that would be re-recording her music before she's allowed to next year." The "You Need to Calm Down" singer also revealed she was prevented from using those songs in her upcoming Netflix documentary.
Will Taylor Swift be able to perform her old songs at the AMAs? This is what we know:
An agreement has reportedly been reached. A statement - said to be from Taylor's former label Big Machine and Dick Clark Productions, which is producing the AMAs - was released this Monday clarifying that "recording artists do not need label approval for live performances on television or any other live media. Record label approval is only needed for contracted artists' audio and visual recordings and in determining how those works are distributed. This includes the upcoming American Music Awards performances."
However, Dick Clark Productions is now denying having authorized the statement from Big Machine announcing this agreement, "Any final agreement on this matter needs to be made directly with Taylor Swift's management team," Dick Clark Productions stated. Fans expect to get more details about this situation in the coming days. We would love to listen to some Taylor Swift classics!
