Scottish singer Shirley Manson aka the lead singer of rock band Garbage has been one of the most powerful women in the music industry. Apart from her fantastic music career as a singer and songwriter, Manson has been active in show business as an actress, not to mention she has been supporting uncountable causes, including cancer and AIDS charities.
Born on August 26, 1966, in Edinburgh, Shirley Manson's career began when she was only a teenager who used to perform backing vocals for the Scottish rock band Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. A young, rebellious, and dark Shirley, gained media attention for her on-stage talent and was approached by a record label that wanted to launch her as a solo artist. The rest is history.
Alternative rock band Garbage eventually spotted her and she became part of it as the lead singer. Shirley Manson, along with Garbage band members Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig, released six studio albums, being Strange Little Birds (2016), the most recent one. "When I Grow Up," "Only Happy When It Rains," "Cherry Lips," and of course James Bond's theme "The World Is Not Enough," are only a few of Garbage's most successful tracks.
Shirley Manson does not only have a successful career with her beloved band Garbage but also as a solo artist. In recent years Shirley Manson has pursued her career both as an actress and a voice talent. In 2012 for instance, she played "Nicole" on the American political thriller Knife Fight, alongside Rob Lowe, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Modern Family star Julie Bowen. In 2017 she voiced "Chirp" and "Cheep" on the Canadian animated series Top Wing, which revolves around the lives of four young birds who earn their wings by helping the community.
