This Is U2's Bono In 2020!
Irish singer-songwriter Paul David Hewson, or better known by his stage name Bono, has been the lead singer of rock band U2 since 1976. Find out what the talented musician is up to in 2020 right here!
Born May 10, 1960, Irish born singer Paul David Hewson was gifted with an extraordinary voice. His voice was so extraordinary that his childhood friends, who had a custom of giving each other nicknames, began to call Paul "Bono", which is Latin for "good voice".
While still in high school, Paul now known as Bono by his friends and family, would form the group U2 with his high school friends David Evans ("The Edge"), Dik and Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. Originally called "Feedback" and then "The Hype", the band eventually settled on the name "U2" after an American spy aircraft that had crashed prior to Bono's birth. The name stuck.
Bono and U2
Bono started out as a guitar player for U2, but it was soon realized he was a better singer than guitar player. David Evans or The Edge, would take over as lead guitar and Bono would become the groups lead singer.
Almost all of the bands hits have been written by Bono himself, including popular songs "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Where the Streets Have No Names", and "With or Without You". In addition to being a talented singer and songwriter, Bono is also a great entertainer and is known for his interactions with audiences.
Bono in 2020
More recently the band has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2015 Rolling Stone ranked Bono on their list of the top 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Even 40 years later the band is as popular as ever!
When he's not performing or writing, Bono, now 60, enjoys spending time with his wife of 38 years, high school sweetheart and businesswoman Alison Hewson, and their four children, Jordan (31), Memphis (28), Elijah (20), and John (18).
