Britons in uproar as it is revealed that Princess Eugenie's wedding will cost millions
Princess Eugenie will marry the love of her life, Jack Brooksbank, this October. The upcoming wedding has caused uproar among some circles however, as details about the cost of the ceremony and celebration afterwards have been revealed.
Princess Eugenie (28) and Jack Brooksbank (31) are set to tie the know this October. After having to postpone their wedding, a new date has been set, and the happy couple will be walking down the aisle on 12th October 2018. However, this second royal wedding of the year will certainly not be a cheap event to organise.
According to the Mirror, the wedding was orginally meant to cost around €800,000. Princess Eugenie and Jack also want to invite the public to their wedding and get married in St. George's Chapel in Windsor, just like Prince Harry (33) and Duchess Meghan (37), and so the amount needed to pay for the necessary security has increased dramatically. The Mirror has reported that security alone will cost a princely (or, in this case, princessly) 2.2 million euros!
Taxpayers have to pay for Princess Eugenie's wedding
For some members of the public, this is simply too much, as British taxpayers will have to pay these expenses. Security at Prince William's (36) wedding cost a whopping 34 million euros. After all, Prince William is second in line to the British throne, after Prince Charles (69).
Prince Harry's wedding was also not what you would call a bargain, with 27 million euros being spent on security. However, both princes are very popular and hold a special place in the nation's hearts as Lady Diana's (†36) sons.
Princess Eugenie, on the other hand, is "only" ninth in line to the throne and has no official royal duties. One member of parliament has even gone so far as to call the expenditure a scandal. We hope that on her big day, all the drama and expense will have been worth it, and that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will have an unforgettable wedding day.
