Duchess Meghan's new love of all-black outfits: Simply a way to mask a baby bump?
There was THAT wedding dress, followed by a series of stunning outfits in pastel pink and, in not time at all, Duchess Meghan was a fashion icon. However, the gorgeous royal has recently taken a step back from the sugary colour, opting instead for a range of tailored black ensembles.
Since returning from her summer break, the Duchess of Sussex (37) has undergone somewhat of a style evolution. Her usual go-to pink numbers seem to be a thing of the past, and she has predominantly been pictured in black.
The Duchess first dazzled in dark colours when she wore a Judith & Charles black tuxedo dress to the Hamilton gala performance in London back in August.
She also wore an-all black outfit with a blue coat for the launch of her first project, a charity cookbook packed full of recipes by women who had survived the Grenfell Tower catastrophe last year. It came as no surprise that she also chose to wear black for her first solo engagement, wearing a stunning £2,510 Givenchy dress to the Royal Academy of Arts of Tuesday.
Maybe all the black is simply a ploy to keep us guessing whether the Duchess of Sussex really is pregnant? Black is loved by celebs the world over for its slimming qualities, maybe for its baby bump hiding ones, too?
The UK's leading expert on Applied Colour Psychology told the Daily Mail that this change of colour schemes could signify a new chapter for the Duchess. "Looking at the occasions when the Duchess of Sussex is wearing black, this would suggest to me from a colour psychology perspective she is OK with not being in the limelight, not wanting to have the focus on her". She went on to note that, "black has the ability have the wearer almost disappear and not be noticed. This looks to be her way of deflecting attention off herself and onto the causes she is supporting – putting them in the spotlight and centre stage".
Celebrity stylist Rochelle White agreed stating, "I feel she is very conscious on the outfits she picks that are not only trendy, smart and eye-catching but won’t take away from what is dong". The top stylist also pointed out that Meghan's outfits had been very tailored of late, such as the beautiful Altuzarra suit she wore to the WellChild Awards, making the Duchess appear more business-like. Or, we wonder, whether she has just been missing wearing more formal Suits?!
