Meghan Markle Surprises Schoolchildren at the National Theatre

Duchess Meghan visits the National Theatre

The Duchess of Sussex looked pretty in pink on her first official visit as patron of the National Theatre in London yesterday. As a retired actress, Meghan is a firm believer in the power of theatre and the arts to bring together people from all walks of life. Pupils from the Edith Neville Primary School in Camden were certainly taken by surprise when the royal mother-to-be visited them in one of the theatre's rehearsal rooms!

The Duchess of Sussex visited the National Theatre on Wednesday. Meghan is the theatre's new patron, taking over from the Queen, and she met theatre staff on her first official visit. She also chatted to the theatre's various apprentices who work as technicians, honing their skills in everything from painting to metalwork and carpentry.

Duchess Meghan looked beautiful in blush-pink as she was greeted by excited fans as she arrived at London's Southbank. Her head-to-toe blush-pink look featured a Brandon Maxwell mini dress and matching blazer, which she accessorised with Aquazzura shoes and a Carolina Herrera clutch.

It is a fitting patronage as the Duchess of Sussex worked as an actress for more than ten years and is most famous for playing lawyer Rachel Zane in the hit drama Suits, of course. Meghan's acting roots are not television ones though, instead she is actually a trained theatre actress and holds a double major in Drama and International Relations.

"I'm never going to wash my hand again!", said one pupil after meeting Duchess Meghan

The Duchess of Sussex was introduced to pupils from the Edith Neville Primary School in Camden, who were practising in one of the theatre's rehearsal rooms, during her visit. Meghan already knew a lot of the pupils by sight at least, having watched them perform at the theatre last year. She told them that she had greatly enjoyed their performance, saying, "I snuck in and watched. It was great, I didn't want to leave. It was fantastic... I recognise some of these faces. You guys did an amazing job when I saw you perform right before Christmas".

The pupils were given another chance to impress the duchess and  performed a short five-minute performance of their take on War Horse.

Kroni Pacolli (10), one of the school's pupils, was delighted. "I never thought I'd perform in front of the Royal Family and meet a royal! I've only ever seen her on TV. I'm speechless. She came and shook my hand and I'm never going to wash this hand again!". High praise indeed!
