Prince Charles Teams Up With Punk Designers For Eco-Friendly Fashion Line!
An avante-garde fashion duo is collaborating with a royal while keeping Mother Nature in mind! Find out what we know about Prince Charles' surprising new venture...
Prince Charles is getting fashionable in his newest pursuit! In an exclusive for People, the co-founder of sustainable British brand Vin + Omi reveals that they have been collaborating with Charles for a special collection!
“We love working with Prince Charles and we have a lot of fun doing it,” the brand's co-founder, who simply goes by Omi, says. "He has been very involved in terms of what we are doing, and it’s an ongoing relationship, which is really lovely. He has a great sense of humor, he’s very quick witted, so there is always banter between us all. I love our conversations with him."
Charles actively making contribution to fashion designers' line
Prince Charles has actually collaborated with Vin + Omi before, harvesting nettle plants to be used in their Spring/Summer collection last year. For their newest collection though, which is set to be showcased for London Fashion Week, Charles has upped the ante when it comes to his involvement!
This time around, the royal has donated "hydrangeas, nettles, willow, ash, wood chippings and horse hair clippings from the stables" to be used in Vin + Omi's latest eco-friendly designs.
He's also been an active part of the collaboration process, talking sustainability and bringing his own ideas to the table. "That came from him and his team and it’s brilliant! We are looking into that at the moment,” Omi said of Charles' suggestion to use spicy root vegetable horseradish as a new raw material.
Charles and Vin + Omi: how their collaboration came about
Prince Charles made a suggestion back in 2018 that sparked the whole thing! While the royal and the radical design duo may seem like a strange combination, they crossed paths at a fashion event. Upon hearing how the pair wanted a sustainable material that could be transformed into fabric, Charles suggested using nettles, and a unique partnership was born!
On top of the London Fashion Week collection, they've also got a line of tote bags being sold at the Highgrove Royal Gardens, with proceeds to benefit The Prince's Foundation and the Prince's Trust. "We are thinking of ways we can integrate within the foundation and help young people direct their careers towards sustainability,” Omi says.
"Our whole brand ethos is against everything that comes with establishment, but it’s amazing that something as simple as the environment can link different people together.”
