Harry and Meghan's Netflix deal brings an end to royal funding
Harry and Meghan recently made a pretty big business move within the media industry last week! The couple signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix to produce original content for the streaming service. Not long after this new partnership was announced, it was revealed that Harry and Meghan's funding from the royal family had come to an end.
A source told People that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are "no longer receiving any financial support" from Prince Charles. Back in March, Harry and Meghan left the United Kingdom to begin their new lives, and Charles helped with their living expenses. It was also rumoured that Charles had helped cover the cost of security for Harry and Meghan. However, sources close to the couple have denied this claim.
Harry and Meghan will continue paying rent for Frogmore Cottage
Harry and Meghan first expressed their desire to become "financially independent" back in January, when they announced that they were stepping back from the royal family. The couple also recently took care of a past debt, as it was announced on Monday that Harry and Meghan have repaid the reno funds for Frogmore Cottage!
The money went back to the Sovereign Grant, which the U.K. government uses to support the royal family by giving it to various palaces. As People mentions, the couple— along with their son Archie— bought a house in Santa Barbara last month, will still be paying rent for their overseas home. We're glad to hear that Harry and Meghan are finally able to support themselves during this exciting new chapter of their lives!
