Prince William Set To Appear In New Documentary About Soccer And Mental Health
There's a brand-new documentary coming out that's centred on Prince William and how he's addressed mental health within the realm of soccer! Find out more about it here!
Prince William is set to be the subject of an upcoming BBC documentary that deals with two things he's incredibly passionate about... soccer and mental health! As Entertainment Tonight reports, Tackling Mental Health With The Duke Of Cambridge will be airing on U.K. channel BBCOne in May as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.
William shown consulting with players in mental health doc
Prince William's new documentary spans the course of a year, and sees him meeting with soccer players like Chelsea manager Frank Lampard and England defender Tyrone Mings. While doing so, William will be addressing the topic of "men's mental health through the prism of football".
In a statement to Deadline about the project, BBC director-general Tony Hall reflected on the importance of bringing mental health to the forefront, especially during these challenging times. "Mental health is important — and during this pandemic more important than ever," he said.
"Many people may be struggling alone, they may be worried about maintaining their own well-being or want to better equip themselves to help loved ones. That’s why bringing mental health issues out into the open is so important. Our programs aim to do just that".
William addressed topic last year for his 'Heads Up' initiative
Prince William visited several soccer teams in the U.K. in 2019 to speak about the sport in relation to mental health as part of his 'Heads Up' campaign! During that time, he was seen consulting with star players for "A Royal Team Talk".
Since William is President of the Football Association, it makes sense that he would want to bring together two topics he cares about. William and Kate are known advocates of mental health, and recently launched a new mental health service, which they've called 'Our Frontline'.
