This might be surprising, especially to Princess Charlotte herself, but Prince William and Duchess Kate's only daughter actually made history back in 2018, without even knowing it. Princess Charlotte is fourth in line for the throne

The decision to change the UK succession law was unanimously approved at a Commonwealth summit in Australia in 2011 and meant that girls will not be overtaken by any future younger brothers in the UK's line of succession for the throne. So when Prince Louis was born in 2018, Charlotte retained her place as fourth in line, while Louis is fifth.

The law was initially changed to make sure that if Prince William and Duchess Catherine were to have a daughter as a firstborn, she would take precedence over any possible younger brothers. David Cameron, who was British Prime Minister at the time, commented on the law change as follows:

"Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our Queen. The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he is a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic – this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we have become."

We shall see if Will and Kate have another child - this one would then take sixth place in the line of succession, actually bumping their uncle Prince Harry to seventh! Get the latest updates and more news on the royal family right HERE...!
