It was announced on Thursday that Princess Eugenie has become the patron of a health-related organization whose work means a lot to her! Eugenie was named Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association UK, and the charity's co-founder made a statement about the decision. Find out more here!

Princess Eugenie has been awarded an exciting new patronage! As People shares, Eugenie was named patron of the United Kingdom's leading scoliosis charity on Thursday, and it's an organization that's especially meaningful to the royal.

Eugenie's new patronage "a very personal decision"

Eugenie's patronage was officially announced by the Scoliosis Association UK, as the organization took to Twitter in order to share the exciting news. "We are pleased to announce that Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie has agreed to become the Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association UK," they tweeted.

As People mentions, the organization's founder and chair, Stephanie Clark, also made a statement about Eugenie's patronage! "I am absolutely delighted and grateful that Princess Eugenie is to be our Royal Patron," Clark said. "Her bravery and experience makes this a very personal decision, and will continue to offer encouragement to the many people of all ages who are struggling to come to terms with their scoliosis."

Eugenie has been outspoken about scoliosis in the past

Princess Eugenie's new patronage is a special one to her because she herself had scoliosis when she was young! After receiving surgery to correct the spinal condition when she was 12 years old, Eugenie ended up with a scar on her back. However, she's found beauty in this physical imperfection!

During Eugenie's wedding, she chose to wear a dress that exposed her scar. And in June of this year, the royal took to Instagram to share a photo that prominently featured her back scar, encouraging others who have had scoliosis to do the same. "Let's be proud of our scars!" she said.

Eugenie has also had quite an exciting year so far! She recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary with husband Jack Brooksbank, and the two are expecting their first child together sometime in early 2021. They also had a pair of koalas named after them, with Eugenie saying she was "honoured" to share her name with the marsupial. It looks like things are going pretty well for Princess Eugenie these days, and we congratulate her on her new patronage!
