Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born in London on April 21st, 1926. She is the oldest daughter of King George VI. and Elizabeth, Duchess of York.
Elizabeth and her younger sister Margaret - the Queen is four years older by the way - whilst having a walk in the mid-forties. During the Second World War, the Queen successfully completed an apprenticeship in the women's section of the British Army as a truck driver and mechanic.
Elizabeth and Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark were married on the 20th of November 1947 in Westminster Abbey. In 1948, Elizabeth gave birth to their first child, Prince Charles.
In February 1952, King George VI died. On June 2nd, 1953, Elizabeth was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. She was only 26 years old.

The Royals moved more and more into the media's focus during the 1980s and '90s. The monarchy was under great criticism and the Royals were even involved in odd scandals. In 1992 Prince Andrew got divorced from Sarah Ferguson and even Princess Anne broke with her husband. However, the family's head, the Queen herself, mastered these difficult times brilliantly!
The Queen had a very close relationship with her mother, who was affectionately called 'Queen Mum'. Unfortunately, 'Queen Mum' alias Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon died in 2002 at the age of 102.
