Queen Elizabeth II has traveled across most of the world during her lifetime and has gotten the opportunity to try many different cultural dishes and specialties. However, her palette might not be as you suspect! Former royal chef Darren McGrady has revealed some surprising details...
Former Royal Chef Darren Gives Details On The Queen's Favourite Foods
The British Monarch has a very traditional taste in food according to Hello! magazine. Unlike Meghan Markle and the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, who are self-proclaimed "foodies", Queen Elizabeth isn't too keen on trying new dishes.
When speaking to Hello!, Darren revealed the Queen's likes and dislikes when it comes to food and her love of chocolate! He even revealed that she tweaks the menu for different members of the royal family! How sweet.
Queen Elizabeth "Is absolutely a chocoholic"
"She is absolutely a chocoholic. Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose, especially chocolate perfection pie," the former royal chef revealed. Darren McGrady worked at Buckingham Palace for eleven years and Kensington Palace for four.
He continued, "For a main course she loved game, things like Gaelic steak, fillet steak with a mushroom whisky sauce, especially if we did it with venison. For a first course she loved the Gleneagles pâté, which is smoked salmon, trout and mackerel. She loved using ingredients off the estate and so if we had salmon from Balmoral from the River Dee, she'd have that, it was one of her favourites."
Prince Philip is a foodie
"We used a repertoire of dishes, mainly British and French food. We cooked a lot of traditional French food like halibut on a bed of spinach with a Morney sauce," adding that the Queen would eat to live rather than live to eat. Darren also spoke about how Prince Philip would "want to try any new dishes all the time and got excited about new ingredients," unlike Elizabeth.
Menus were prepared for the Queen three days in advance and sent up to her for approval: "The chefs would pick the menus and she would put a line through the ones she didn't want. Sometimes she'd put a line through it all and put something different, like if she was having dinner with Prince Andrew, his favourite was crème brulee with Sandringham oranges," Darren shared.
Apparently Prince William's favourite tasty treat is chocolate biscuit cake! Yum!
