Diana & Meghan Parallels "Impossible" Not To See, Says 'The Crown' Creator
It's nearly time for new episodes of The Crown, and more details about season 4 are becoming public. In the new season, Princess Diana's story is introduced, as portrayed by actress Emma Corrin. And the parallels between Diana and Duchess Meghan are easy to see, according to series creator Peter Morgan.
The Crown season 4 finally arrives on Nov. 15, 2020! The new season of the hit Netflix series, dedicated to the life of Queen Elizabeth II, stands out from the earlier seasons in many ways. But perhaps most notable is the debut of Princess Diana (†36), played by Emma Corrin, who will perform a key role in season 4.
Series creator Peter Morgan recently commented on the filming of the new season. And in an interview with Vanity Fair he was also asked about current events in the Royal Family.
The Crown: The Meghan Markle and Princess Diana parallels
At the beginning of the year, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced their intention to withdraw from royal duties. In this decision, Crown creator Morgan observes a clear parallel with Lady Di. She also separated from her husband Prince Charles and similarly had clashes with the royal family:
"Diana struggled to fit in with the institution in a way that it's impossible not to see the parallels with Meghan Markle and Harry. So the story feels both incredibly vivid historically, but also it really shines a lot of light on where we are now," the 57-year-old screenwriter said.
Netflix's The Crown: Don't expect to see Meghan Markle
Morgan, also head writer of The Crown, is very sensitive in deciding which royal events are taken up on the show. In particular, current events surrounding the Royal Family are not discussed.
In 2018, the 57-year-old told EW: "I feel uncomfortable writing about events within a certain time period. Let's wait 20 years and see what there is to say about Meghan Markle. I don't know what to say about Meghan at the moment. I wouldn't know and I wouldn't presume."
Even if the Crown covers the relationship between Princess Diana and her children, Morgan has no plans to openly portray royal clashes. Whether or not his closed stance on Meghan and Harry changes will be revealed in possible future seasons.
