The Duchess of Sussex positively glowed in a gorgeous colour-blocked ensemble made up of a red coat by Sentaler and a fitted, purple dress by Babaton for Aritzia. She accessorised with a brown leather structural Gabriela Hearst tote and red court shoes.

The Duke and Duchess were met by hundreds of royal fans at Hamilton Square, whom they greeted and shook hands with on a short walkabout.

After the meet and greet with their fans they went on to view a sculpture erected in honour of the poet Wilfred Owen's on the 100th anniversary of his death. Owen died just one week before the Armistice in 1918. The bronze statue, which vividly portrays the abject despair of an exhausted World War One soldier was cast in a foundry in Liverpool. The soldier, who is sitting clutching his head in his hands, is named after one of Owen's most famous poems, Futility

After viewing the memorial, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex unveiled a plaque marking their visit. They then met with members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, whose most famous member was Wilfred Owen himself.
