The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge open new V&A Museum in Dundee
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Dundee earlier today to open the new Victoria and Albert Museum and meet excited members of the public. The Cambridges last visited the city in 2015 and have a close connection to the city as it is near to St Andrews University where the royal couple first met.
"Last February, I was delighted to be asked to be the @V_and_A's Patron. Now, nearly a year later, I'm thrilled to be standing in a brand new V&A: one which has been built for the city of Dundee and for Scotland." — The Duchess of Cambridge @VADundee #RoyalVisitDundee pic.twitter.com/UyuCeWI8nI— Kensington Palace (@KensingtonRoyal) January 29, 2019
Kate became patron of the V&A Museum last February and professed herself to be "thrilled to be standing in a brand new V&A: one which has been built for the city of Dundee and for Scotland" in a speech she gave earlier today at the newly opened museum.
After the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had officially declared the museum open they were greeted by excited locals on the city's newly spruced up waterfront at just after one in the afternoon. The £1billion regeneration of the water-side area and the opening of the new V&A Museum heralds a new start for the neighbourhood, as Dundee's creative hub.
Kate looked gorgeous in a Q by McQueen tartan coat dress
Duchess Kate arrived at the waterfront with Prince William looking stunning in a Q by McQueen tartan coat dress, paired with black court shoes and matching black tights. She carried a green structured micro bag by Manu Atelier.
After visiting Dundee's waterfront, William and Kate, who are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, visited the Dundee Michelin factory. They met the factory's workers and joined a Michelin Action Group meeting. The group was founded last year after French tyre manufacturer Michelin announced that it would be closing its Dundee factory, which will leave more than 800 people unemployed. The group aims to explore all possible options for the tyre factory, which is the city's largest industrial employer, and its workers.
