Boris Johnson has been granted special access to Buckingham Palace during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Find out why the Queen has allowed it here...

Queen Elizabeth II has allowed Boris Johnson to exercise on the grounds of Buckingham Palace while he recovers from COVID-19.

The UK Prime Minister had spent days in the intensive care unit while he battled the disease in April. In recent weeks, he's upped his exercise regimen in hopes of improving his health.

But questions were raised after Johnson was seen in workout gear departing from Buckingham Palace, headquarters of the monarch, on Tuesday.

As it turns out, the Queen offered up the grounds of Buckingham Palace to provide more privacy to PM Johnson, who, over the years, has been spotted exercising in public.

People confirmed that he's been given permission to jog around the palace's landscaped gardens, which will permit him to get in shape in seclusion and socially distanced from others.

Buckingham Palace isn't open to the public due to COVID-19

Normally, Buckingham Palace would at this time be open to the public for its annual summer tours, but those plans were cancelled amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The Queen and Prince Philip, meanwhile, are in lockdown at Windsor Castle, so Johnson will get in some jogging at Buckingham Palace, which is just a few minutes away from the Prime Minister's Office.

Johnson, 55, welcomed his first child with fiancée Carrie Symonds on April 29 of this year, not long after he'd overcame his case of COVID-19. The PM and the Queen also remain in contact on a weekly basis via telephone calls.
