The Queen and Prince Philip were spotted during the first stage of their Tuesday journey, which began with a car ride to RAF Northolt in West London. The royal couple was photographed riding backseat in a chauffeur-driven car.
At the RAF station, they boarded a private plane and were on their way to Aberdeenshire, Scotland. After landing at Aberdeenshire, the 94-year-old Queen and 99-year-old Duke are to be driven directly to Balmoral Castle, per Daily Mail.
The Queen & Duke of Edinburgh's stay at Balmoral Castle
The move to Balmoral Castle has come later than usual in 2020, owing to precautions imposed by the coronavirus. Typically, the Queen heads to Balmoral to spend her summer break beginning in mid-July. This year, she and Philip arrive in early August and will reportedly remain there for at least 12 weeks — lasting into October.
Royal aides made the move to Balmoral Castle in advance of the monarch's Aug. 4 trip, and they have reportedly followed a two-week self-quarantine to ensure safe health for the nonagenarian royals.
It is expected that the Royal Family will carry on with traditional visits to Balmoral Castle this summer. Precisely who will stop in to see the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh isn't yet known, but it has been confirmed that Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan, and Archie will not make the trip to the U.K.
