Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's #BlackLivesMatter statement

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opened the week with a statement made through The Queen's Commonwealth Trust. The Duke of Sussex is the president of the QCT while Meghan serves as vice-president of the charity, which "champions, funds and connects young leaders who are working hard to change the world."

On Monday, the QCT tweeted its endorsement of the fight against injustice.

"Young people are vital voices in the fight against injustice and racism around the world. As a global community of young leaders we stand together in pursuit of fairness and a better way forward," the statement said.

"Silence is not an option," it concluded, along with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.

The post was accompanied by a Martin Luther King Jr. quote, saying, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

"Heads Together stands with the black community. Today and every day," the post read.

"This is a reminder to all that your mental health matters, and our charity partners are there for you if you need support. If you or someone you know is feeling distressed, overwhelmed, anxious or panicked, talking can help."

The post then concluded by reiterating the opening statement: "Black Lives Matter. Today and every day."

Elsewhere, The Diana Award, a charity founded in memory of Princess Diana, contributed another message of unity with the protests.

"We will not be silent," the Diana Award stated on Twitter. "We will continue to pursue a world where every young person, irrespective of the colour of their skin, fulfills their potential without the fear of discrimination."

"We see you. We stand with you. #BlackLivesMatter." The message was posted alongside an impactful cartoon featuring a police officer and a black child.

In addition to these statements, a 2012 video of Meghan Markle speaking on her experiences with racism as a biracial woman circulated on Tuesday on social media.

"I'm biracial. Most people can't tell what I'm mixed with, and so much of my life has felt like being a fly on the wall," Meghan said. "And so some of the slurs I've heard or the really offensive jokes, or the names, it's just hit me in a really strong way."

Meghan's comments came as part of the Erase The Hate campaign, and she was seen wearing an "I Won't Stand For Racism" t-shirt in the video.
