Prince Harry was born September 15th, 1984 in London. His full name is Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales. He is Prince Charles and Lady Diana's (†36) second child. On December 21st, 1984 he was christened at St. George's Chapel.
Prince Harry's mother Princess Diana wanted her children to have a more modern and less sheltered upbringing than previous royal children and the family visitied all kinds of different venues ranging from McDonald's and Disney World to homeless shelters and AIDS clinics.
Prince Harry attended Jane Mynors' nursery school and Wetherby School in Notting Hill, London. He then attended Ludgrove School boarding school in Berkshire before being admitted to prestigious Eton College.
In 1997, when Prince Harry was just 12 years old, his mother Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in Paris. Harry and his brother were staying at Balmoral when the accident happened and Prince Charles told his sons about their mother's death. He walked behind the funeral cortège with his father, brother, Prince Philip and Earl Spencer from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey.
Prince Harry is athletic and is a keen sportsman, playing various sports including competitive polo, which he plays regularly to raise money for charity. He is a talented skier and also enjoys motocross. He is also a big rugby fan and excelled at the sport at school.
After completing his education in 2003 he took a gap year working on a cattle ranch in Australia, as his father had done before him. In November 2003 he played in the Young England versus Young Australia Polo Test match, which was held near Sydney. He also travelled to Lesotho where he helped build a clinic for an orphanage for children suffering from AIDS. Whilst there he produced the documentary film "The Forgotten Kingdom" to help raise awareness of the plight of children suffering form the disease.
Prince Harry completed his officer training at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy in 2006. In 2008, after serving for two years, he was promoted to lieutenant.
In 2007 Prince Harry served for over ten weeks in Helmland, Afghanistan. He returned there in 2012 with the Army Air Corps for twenty weeks.
He created, and is patron of, the Invictus Games Foundation. Druing the event, wounded, injured and sick amred services personnel take part in a number of sports including indoor rowing and wheelchair basketball. The first games took place in March 2014 in London. The second games were held in Orlando, Florida in 2016. The 2017 games took place in Toronto. Prince Harry and Barack Obama both attended the 2016 and 2017 games and the two were often seen joking together. The BBC has taken advantage of this blossoming bromance and Prince Harry has even interviewed the former president.
HALO Trust clears landmines in war-torn countries and Prince Harry became patron of HALO Trust's 25th Anniversary Appeal in March 2013. Lady Diana visited minefields being cleared by HALO in Angola just before her death in 1997 and Prince Harry had also visited minefields being cleared by the trust before becoming a patron. He travelled to Mozambique in 2010 to see firsthand just what a devastating effect landmines can have, meeting various amputees, and even detonating several mines himself, albeit under supervision.
Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale, a charity aimed at supporting childeren affected by extreme poverty, or who suffer from HIV/AIDS in Lesotho. The charity was set up in 2006, as Prince Harry felt compelled to help after visiting Lesotho during his gap year in 2004. The word Sentebale means "forget-me-not" in Sesotho, Lesotho's official language and, since the charity's foundation, Prince Harry has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about Lesotho's most vulnerable children.
The world's media went crazy when Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were engaged on the 27th November 2017. Meghan's engagement ring consists of three diamonds, two of which are from Princess Diana's jewelry collection. Prince Harry has been dating the gorgeous actress since mid 2016 and the couple made their first public appearance together at the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Toronto. The couple wed on the 19th May 2018.
