Through The Years With Princess Charlene of Monaco
Charlene Lynette Wittstock was born in Zimbabwe. Charlene grew up in South Africa, near Johannesburg and once swam for South Africa!
Charlene swam competitively from a young age onwards and won lots of competitions. She won three gold medals at the African Games in 1999 and silver at the Commonwealth Games in 2002.
Charlene wanted to take part in the 2008 Olympics, but couldn't due to a shoulder injury. She retired from swimming in 2007.
She met Albert in 2000. The couple made their first public appearance together at the 2006 Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
Since then, Charlene regularly accompanies him to events.
Princess Charlene of Monaco and Prince Albert were guests at Princess Victoria of Sweden's wedding in 2010. They announced their own engagement just a few days later.
They got married on 1st July 2011 and Charlene Wittstock became Princess Charlene of Monaco. She looked absolutely fabulous in a pearl-covered Giorgio Armani Privé wedding dress.
Their wedding was watched by millions all over the world.
Charlene gave birth to the twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella in December 2014.
