Watch Prince William pilot an air ambulance over London!

Prince William piloted an air ambulance from Kensington Palace to Royal London Hospital

While Kate celebrated her birthday at home with Prince Louis, the Duke of Cambridge took to the skies of London yesterday as the new patron of the London Air Ambulance Charity's 30th anniversary campaign.

The Duke of Cambridge is the new patron of the London Air Ambulance 30th Anniversary Campaign and in honour of his new role visited London Air Ambulance staff, patients and their families at the Royal London Hospital.

Prince William (36) arrived at the hospital for his first engagement of the year in style. He was picked up by an air ambulance at his home Kensington Palace and then piloted the aircraft back to the hospital himself

The Duke of Cambridge is an extremely skilled pilot having flown a rescue aircraft for the East Anglian Air Ambulance from 2015 to 2017, serving as a first-responder. In 2018 he revealed that he struggled with the mental burdens that came with being an air ambulance pilot, especially when he was part of operations that involved missing or injured children, saying that he "took a lot home without realising it".

The charity's 2019 campaign aims to raise awareness about its role in delivering life-saving treatment throughout London, but is also a drive to raise funds for new facilities. Kensington Palace issued the following statement, "As Patron of the 30th Anniversary Campaign, the duke will champion those working on the frontline, and highlight the importance of the London Air Ambulance’s vital work".
