Throughout all twenty-six productions, the character of "James Bond" has been portrayed by a total of seven actors: Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger, Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. We'll catch you up on what all the actors are doing today...
George Lazenby had the great honor of playing "James Bond" exactly once. He starred in the 1969 installment On Her Majesty's Secret Service. This was partly due to tensions that arose between the actor and the director of the film, but also because the reviews were quite bad and many critics did not think Lazenby to be a good enough actor.
Lazenby was simply no match for Connery's portrayal of "James Bond" and the fans did not really like him either. He did not manage to get a big career going after his appearance in On Her Majesty's Secret Service - he was featured only in a couple smaller TV and film productions...
With Roger Moore, the producers eventually found a worthy successor to Sean Connery's "James Bond". The 1973 hit Live And Let Die was Moore's first appearance as "007" and he became an instant fan favorite!
In 2011, Roger Moore starred in a movie for the very last time when he appeared in A Princess for Christmas. Sadly, Moore passed away on May 23rd 2017 in his home in Switzerland. The actor was 89 years old.
Timothy Dalton was Roger Moore's successor. His first appearance was in the 1987 "Bond" film The Living Daylights, and he played the agent in the 1989 installment Licence To Kill, alongside Carey Lowell. After two films, Dalton did not want to be "007" anymore.
After his Bond films, Dalton divided his work between stage, television and films, and diversified the characters he played. He was able to shake off the "James Bond" typecast and had a great career. He most recently played "Sir Malcolm Murray" in the British-American TV series Penny Dreadful, alongside Josh Hartnett and Eva Green.
The next James Bond film came out six years later, in 1995. GoldenEye featured Pierce Brosnan as "007" and was a worldwide success. Fans loved Brosnan and his demeanor as the world's favorite secret agent. He ended up playing the role four times.
Pierce Brosnan is still a successful actor. After his four Bond films, he starred in numerous big productions, like Mamma Mia, The Ghost Writer and A Long Way Down to name only a few highlights. His most recent appearance on the big screen was in the 2017 AMC show The Son.
After a four-year break, Daniel Craig took on the role of the secret agent. Casino Royale was an amazing success in 2006, and he went on to star in three more James Bond films afterwards.
In a recent interview, Daniel Craig confirmed he will be playing the role of "James Bond" for a fifth (and last!) time. The film, which is set to be released in 2019, will also the 25th installment of the franchise on the big screen!
