The alien "Alf" crashes his spaceship into the garage of the "Tanner" family's home. "Kate" and "Willie Tanner", the family's parents, let him live with them and manage to hide him from the authorities. "Alf" is not an easy houseguest to have, to put it mildly, which is strange, since his favorite pastimes include sleeping, eating and watching TV...
"Alf" is an acronym for 'Alien Life Form'. His real name, given to him on his home planet 'Melmac' is "Gordon Shumway". The show’s creator Paul Fusco was the one to lend his voice to "Alf". Go to the next picture to see, who was inside the costume of everyone’s favorite alien…
Michály "Michu" Mészáros was the man inside "Alf’s" costume for all four seasons. He was only 33 inches tall and was at one point considered the smallest man in the world. He passed away in 2016, at the age of 76.
Andrea Elson portrayed the "Tanner’s" teenage daughter "Lynn", who – at the beginning of the first season – "Alf" even falls for. They then however decided that it would be better if they just stayed friends.
After the cancellation of Alf, Elson appeared in numerous popular TV series of the time as a guest star, including Who's the Boss? and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.
Andrea and her husband Scott Hopper got married in 1993. They had met on the set of Alf, where he worked as a production assistant. The couple is still happy and has two kids together.
Andrea quit acting in her late twenties to become a yoga instructor. The successful businesswoman also has her own blog.
"Brian", played by Benji Gregory, is the son of the "Tanner" family. The six-year-old immediately gets along well with "Alf", also by having many adventures together with him.
Benji Gregory alias "Brian Tanner" quit the acting business right after the last episode of Alf had wrapped. He later attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and joined the Navy in 2003. Gregory was discharged only two years later for medical reasons. Today, he lives with his wife in Arizona.
Max Wright played "Willie", the loving father of the "Tanner" family. For all four seasons, until the show was cancelled by NBC in 1990, he was the most important caregiver to "Alf".
In 1995, Max Wright was diagnosed with lymphoma, which was successfully treated and remains in remission. After the show’s run ended, Max Wright appeared in many television shows, on the big screen and had a stage career as well. He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1998 for his role in Ivanov. In 2000 and 2003 Wright made some negative headlines because of alcohol abuse, yet his career is really impressive.
"Kate Tanner" was played by Anne Schedeen. The well-organized housewife hates it when "Alf" makes a mess in her neatly kept home. Schedeen consciously avoided the public after Alf.
We only saw her in two productions after Alf had ended. Schedeen's last appearance on a TV show was in 2001. In 2015, she granted a rare interview to a Bulgarian TV network in which she described her time in Alf in great detail.
Anne Meara had a recurring role as "Kate’s" widowed mother "Dorothy Halligan", who has a love-hate relationship with "Alf". Meara also appeared in shows like King of Queens (alongside her husband Jerry Stiller by the way) and Sex and the City. The actress died of natural causes in 2015.
