Dirty Dancing, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze (†57) wowed audiences worldwide and the film's soundtrack was unforgettable! Here are 10 facts about the legendary soundtrack that you probably didn't know yet!

When Dirty Dancing was released in 1987, no one could have imagined that it would become one of the most popular films of all time. The budget for the film was low and no famous actors could be convinced to join the project. Today, Dirty Dancing and the two main actors Patrick Swayze (†57) and Jennifer Grey (58) all have A-list status. The film's soundtrack was a big hit as well and is still one of the most successful movie soundtracks ever.

Jennifer Grey's character "Baby" fell head over heels in love with "Johnny Castle".

The soundtrack was released on 4th August 1987, a few weeks before the film itself.

Dirty Dancing was awarded an Oscar in the category Best Original Song for the theme song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life".

The album sold 32 million copies worldwide.

The song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" won the 1988 Grammy Award for the Best Pop Performance sung by a duet or group.

"She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze reached number three in the US billboard single charts.

In the United States, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack was at number one in the Billboard album charts for 18 weeks and was certified multi-platinum.

Bill Medley, who sang the male part in "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", named his 2014 biography after the hit.

For the Dirty Dancing's 20th birthday, a special edition double CD was released, which contains all the songs and a DVD.

"She's Like the Wind" was originally written for the film Grandview, USA (1984). Since the song was not used in the film, the Dirty Dancing producers were allowed to use it.

The sequel to the cult film Dirty Dancing: Havanna Nights was released in 2004, including a new soundtrack. However, it was not as successful as the original and remained at #46 for only 11 weeks.
