George Clooney Will Return To Directing With The Film 'Calico Joe'
George Clooney will once again get behind the camera and direct the upcoming film Calico Joe, based on the novel written by the American author John Grisham. The film will be produced by Clooney, his partner Grant Heslov and Bob Dylan. Here's what we know about the project so far...
Although he is still waiting for the premiere of his new film The Midnight Sky, actor George Clooney is already preparing for his next project as a director. It is a film adaptation of the novel Calico Joe, written by popular American author John Grisham. According to Deadline, Clooney will not only serve as director of the film, but he will also produce it alongside his partner Grant Heslov and musician Bob Dylan.
George Clooney to direct Calico Joe
This week, ZQ Entertainment announced the production of Calico Joe, a film focused on the history of a group of baseball players in the seventies and their interactions with some of the greatest teams.
The film will be directed and produced by George Clooney. His partner in the company Smokehouse Pictures, Grant Heslov, and the renowned musician Bob Dylan will also participate in the production of the film.
"John has written a beautiful story and the chance to collaborate with Bob to bring it to the screen is just fantastic," Clooney noted.
For his part, the Nobel Prize winner for Literature and Oscar winner Bob Dylan described the text as "a powerful story that will resonate with young and old alike. People in all walks of life will be able to relate to it."
Published in 2012, Calico Joe follows the drama of "Joe Castle," a promising first hitter for the Chicago Cubs who ends up in a coma after being hit during a game. New York Mets pitcher "Warren Tracey" and his son "Paul Tracey" also play an important role in the book's story.
With the film, which will begin production in 2021, Clooney not only returns to directing just a few months after finishing the space thriller The Midnight Sky, but he also returns to one of the great themes that he has had the pleasure of portraying behind the camera before: sport.
In 2008, with just two films as a director and an Oscar nomination in the category, Clooney presented Leatherheads, a comedy about a football team from the 1920s that fills their town with hope after hiring one of the great legends of the sport during that time. We are looking forward to the upcoming film directed by George Clooney, Calico Joe.
