Tom Hanks wrote and stars in the new WWII movie Greyhound. Sony today released the first official trailer for the film. It comes out in June! Watch the trailer below.

Tom Hanks is one of the iconic war film actors of his generation. Now, the Saving Private Ryan star is returning to the genre - but this time at sea.

Greyhound is Hanks's newest WWII film. He stars in it as a US Navy Commander aboard a warship during the Battle of the Atlantic. See the trailer below!

Greyhound: Tom Hanks also wrote the new movie 

Not only does Hanks star in Greyhound, but he also wrote the screenplay for the film. He based the screenplay on the book The Good Shepherd by C.S. Forester.

Greyhound is directed by Aaron Schneider. He won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film in 2003. His only other directing credit is his feature debut, Get Low, which was highly acclaimed upon its release in 2009.

Tom Hanks movies and the actor as "Mr. Rogers"

Tom Hanks received praise for his performance as "Mr. Rogers" in the biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The role earned him his sixth Oscar nomination. Though he didn't win at the 2020 Oscars, Hanks has taken the award for Best Actor on two other occasions.

Hanks is, of course, known for roles in Forest GumpPhiladelphia, and Cast Away. But he'll return to the war film genre after starring in Saving Private Ryan back in 1998. He did not act in the series, but he also worked as a director, writer, and producer on the WWII series Band of Brothers in the early 2000s.

Watch for Greyhound when it hits theatres this summer! It's scheduled for a June 12 release date.
