The last ever How I Met Your Mother episode was broadcast in 2014 and we finally had to say goodbye to "Ted", "Marshall", "Lily", "Robin" and "Barney". But what did their actors do next and what are they doing now?
Josh Radnor played the charming architect "Ted Mosby". Since How I Met Your Mother ended, Radnor played "Isaac" in the Broadway play Disgraced and has also starred as "Dr Jedediah Foster" in the American Civil War drama series Mercy Street. Since 2017 Josh Radnor appeared in the NBC musical series Rise.
"Penny", played by Lyndsy Fonseca, always listened to her father "Ted's" stories about how he met her mother with the utmost attention. After the series had ended, Lyndsy starred in the American TV series Agent Carter, in which she played "Angie Martinelli".
Jason Segel already appeared in a number of films while he was a main "HIMYM" cast member and also worked as a producer. He last starred in the drama The Discovery in 2017 and in the drama Come Sunday in 2018.
After eight long seasons, "Ted's" wife is finally revealed in the last episode. It is none other than Cristin Milioti from The Mindy Project. Cristin has also starred in the TV series Fargo as well as the Martin Scorsese movie The Wolf of Wall Street.
David Henrie played "Ted's" son "Luke". David has continued acting and starred in productions like Walt Before Mickey and Cardboard Boxer.
David Burtka starred alongside his husband Neil Patrick Harris ("Barney") in the series. David played "Scooter", who cannot get over his high-school love "Lily" (Alyson Hannigan). David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris got married in 2014 in Italy and have one daughter and one son, who are twins. David also had a guest role in the series American Horror Story in 2015...
Neil Patrick Harris played "Barney" in How I Met Your Mother. He was the first gay man to host the Oscars in 2015. Harris has starred in various films including Starship Troopers, A Million Ways to Die in the West and Gone Girl and has even played "Count Olaf" in Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events since 2017.
Alyson Hannigan played kindergarten teacher "Lily" in the popular TV series HIMYM. "Lily" and "Marshall" (Jason Segel) were THE dream couple on the sitcom. In real life, Alyson has been married to her husband since 2003 and she has two daughters.
Since How I Met Your Mother ended, Alyson Hannigan has not had many acting roles but she did host the hit TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us from 2016 until 2017.
In HIMYM, Cobie Smulders played "Robin" who had an on-off relationship with "Ted" (Josh Radnor) for years. After the series ended, Cobie Smulders starred in numerous films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Unexpected and Results.
Cobie Smulders appears in Avengers: Infinity War and in 2017, she starred in Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events and Friends From College.
For a short time, HIMYM fans thought that "Stella" (Sarah Chalke) was the mother of "Ted's" (Josh Radnor) children, but sadly, she was not his great love. After HIMYM ended, Sarah Chalke appeared in numerous series. For instance, she had guest appearances in Backstrom and Undateable. She also starred in After the Reality and Mother's Day.
"Victoria" (Ashley Williams) and "Ted" (Josh Radnor) would have made such a beautiful couple! But unfortunately, their relationship did not last long. After HIMYM ended, Ashley Williams starred in the films Bad Hurt and October Kiss. She also had several guest appearances in The Jim Gaffigan Show.
We watched every HIMYM episode over nine years and so we were truly sad to see "Ted", "Marshall", "Lily", "Robin" and "Barney's" stories come to an end in 2014...
Who would have thought that it would take 208 episodes for "Ted" (Josh Radnor) to tell the story of how he met the mother of his children. The last episode caused a divide among fans of the hit series, some considered it to be a fitting ending, while others considered it to be a terrible end for the series.
How I Met Your Mother is one of the most successful series of all time. The series won five Emmys and was nominated a whopping seven times. In addition, the series won the People's Choice several times.
