Joaquin Phoenix's haunting portrayal of "Arthur Fleck" in Joker earned him the Best Actor award at the 2020 Oscars this past Sunday. The ceremony capped off the 2020 award show season.
Now that Joker's successful theatrical run and awards season tour have concluded, director Todd Phillips is reflecting on his time with "Joker" actor Joaquin Phoenix.

All of these were taken on our last day of shooting. It was bittersweet for sure— while it felt great to be done, we also had such an intense and unique experience— and then suddenly it just ends. What a ride this film has been and it all culminated with watching Joaquin walk up on that stage this weekend. Thanks again to the entire cast and crew. And especially the fans, for seeing through all the noise and showing up. #joker #illtellyouwhatyouget @nikotavernise
Todd Phillips's emotional images of Joaquin Phoenix during Joker
Phillips's Instagram post notes the "intense and unique experience" of shooting Joker with Phoenix. The photos show the two men embracing and Phoenix performing some of the final scenes in Joker.
He also goes on to thank the entire cast and crew behind the making of the film.
Joker: One of the year's top movies
In addition to the film's record-breaking box office success, Joker was a critical and awards season star. Phoenix's performance and the film's score, composed by Hildur Guonadóttir, were especially popular with awards show voters.
Both Phillips and Phoenix have mentioned that a sequel to Joker is a possibility.
If Phillips's nostalgia for spending time with Phoenix on Joker is any indicator, perhaps another round of Phoenix as "Joker" could be in the works sometime soon!
