Karen Grassle, who is now 78 years old, knew from an early age what she wanted to be when she grew up. After majoring in English and Drama at the University of Berkeley, she received a scholarship from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

The Little House on the Prairie audition was her first big audition and she beat forty-seven other actresses for the role. She soon became known worldwide as "Caroline Ingalls".

Actress Karen Grassle has had three husbands through the years. She was married to Leon Russom from 1966-1970, then to James Allen Radford from 1982-1987 and finally to Dr. Scott Sutherland from 1991-1997. She has one daughter named Lily Radford whom she shares with real estate developer James Allen Radford.
