Margot Robbie Signs On To Star In Newest 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' Movie
Margot Robbie has joined the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise! Here's what we know so far about her role and the new "female-fronted" entry in the popular Disney movie series.
Margot Robbie will soon set sail with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
The 29-year-old Australian actress has just signed on for an upcoming Pirates movie. The news was first announced by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. The outlet describes the project as a "female-fronted" Pirates film that's still in the early stages of development.
On the film, Robbie will work once again with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. Their film is not envisioned as a spin-off of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but rather an original story with new characters who occupy the world seen in the earlier Pirates films.
New Pirates of the Caribbean movies coming soon
The Pirates franchise was last seen on-screen in 2017, when the fifth film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released. Leading man Johnny Depp, who plays "Captain Jack Sparrow," has appeared in all five movies dating back to 2003.
The highly popular franchise additionally announced a reboot for the series in 2019, but Robbie's new film, which is thus far untitled, is separate from that earlier reboot.
