The 2019 Oscars was the first time the annual awards show decided to go on without an emcee after much controversy surrounding the original pick, Kevin Hart. The show actually generated higher ratings than in previous years which is why ABC decided to have the show hostless again this year. Viewership jumped 12 percent last year with a total of 30 million viewers tuning in for the big night.
